Oral medicine
Oral medicine is concerned with diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders of the mouth: oral infections, ulcers, conditions of the mucous membrane, precancerous changes and other oral pathologies.
Periodontics – treating the gums
Periodontics deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the gums and the tissue that holds the teeth, known as periodontal diseases. These include gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and periodontitis (loss of the supporting tissue around the teeth).
Periodontists remove tartar and plaque from the surfaces of the teeth and roots, using methods such as scaling and curettage. They also show patients how to look after their oral hygiene and keep their gums healthy.
Oral medicine and periodontics work together with the other branches of dentistry, so the patient receives complete care. With an individual approach, we help you protect your oral health, prevent disease and keep your gums healthy.
